The lazy days of summer are rapidly coming to an end. (My kids head back to school in just 17 days! Eek!) So put all your must-dos on hold for some I-wanna-dos. There’s aways the beach or the community pool, or you could try one of these weekend offerings instead:
Saturday, Aug. 3
+ You know what I love? Crafts that don’t involve my having to clean up the mess. You too? Head to your neighborhood Home Depot between 9 a.m. to noon for a free workshop for kids ages 5 to 12. They offer a craft workshop the first Saturday of every month, and this month kids are building a Home Depot Load ‘n Go Truck. Arrive early or register beforehand; the stores tend to run out of kits.
+ Playground Magazine is hosting its 3rd annual Back to School Bash at the Oviedo Mall from noon to 4 p.m. There will be three fashion shows, a rock-climbing wall, a DJ dance party, face painting, cupcake decorating, swag bags and more. Think your kid’s the absolute cutest? The magazine will also be casting for its winter cover inside Ashton Photography. Address: 1700 Oviedo Marketplace Blvd, Oviedo.
+ See what all the cool kids will be wearing when school starts at Back to School Fashion Show at Millenia Mall. Shows are at 1 and 3 p.m. Plus: It’s free. Address: 4200 Conroy Road, Orlando.
Sunday, Aug. 4
+ Grab your bikes and your kids and meet up at Downtown Credo Cafe for the Parramore Kidz Zone Bike Ride for Diversity. Cyclists will leave the College Park neighborhood at 10 a.m. and end their ride in the Parramore neighborhood, stopping along the way to encourage other children to ride along. Address: Downtown Credo Cafe, 706 W. Smith St., Orlando.
