A trip to Rocket Fizz on Winter Park’s Park Avenue makes you feel like, well, a kid in a candy shop. Sure it’s a national chain, but the vibe is more like an old-school neighborhood store. And we parents say “no” so often — this is a fun place to loosen up and say “why the heck not!”
I’m not much on candy, so I’ll admit that I was lured here at the prospect of taking some fun photos. The place didn’t disappoint, but it also satisfied my sweet-tooth son. Yes, the whole experience is a bit overwhelming at first (be prepared to hear “I want” a lot), but that’s the fun of a candy shop, right?
You’ll find every kind of candy known to man, including favorites from around the world. (My daughter picked up some Cadbury Dairy Milk Buttons — and savored them for days.)
Then there’s the endless array of specialty sodas: clear ones, blue ones, red ones, orange ones, purple ones. The mind simply boggles! We left with blueberry cream and orange cream. I wasn’t brave enough to try the brand new ranch dressing soda. (*shudder*)
The shop also features retro and gag gifts, concert posters, movie posters, magnets and tin signs for sale, too.
If you go: Like I mentioned earlier, be prepared to say “yes.” It’s a candy store! But set a limit — like $5 or five pieces of candy and a soda. Or consider making a Rocket Fizz visit a chore reward or report-card payoff. Address: 520 South Park Ave., Winter Park. Phone: 407- 645-3499.
